Sudha Murthy, in her maiden speech in the Rajya Sabha, highlighted two key issues: advocating for a government-sponsored vaccination program to combat cervical cancer and promoting domestic tourism.
1. Cervical Cancer Vaccination: Sudha Murthy called for a government-sponsored vaccination program to combat cervical cancer, which is preventable through vaccination. She emphasized the importance of this program, especially for girls aged 9 to 14.
2. Domestic Tourism: Sudha Murthy also pitched for promoting domestic tourism and highlighted 57 domestic tourist sites that should be considered World Heritage Sites. She praised the marvelous temples in Srirangam and noted that the 2,500-year-old monuments in Sarnath are still not recognized as World Heritage Sites.
In her speech, Sudha Murthy quoted her father, saying, "When a mother dies, it is counted as one death in the hospital, but for the family, a mother is lost forever." She also praised the government's handling of the Covid vaccination drive, suggesting that it could manage a similar program for cervical cancer vaccination.
